I am excited to share that Alejandra Chayet, M.A., APCC has joined me as an associate in my practice.  I first got to know Alejandra while I was a clinical supervisor at Rady Children’s Hospital in the Outpatient Psychiatry department.  She stood out as a competent, compassionate and skilled clinician.  Her passion for advocating for her clientele was admirable, and she pushed herself to excel in numerous clinical areas of expertise.  Today, she is working toward a doctoral degree in Human Sexuality and certification as a sex therapist.  In joining the practice, she is passionate about promoting the importance of sexual health for youth and adults.  Please check out her biography below.  She has openings for referrals!

Alejandra Chayet, M.A., APCC
Associate Professional Clinical Counselor

Taking the leap of faith to ask for help requires true courage and vulnerability. Whether you are seeking personal growth or wish to work on relationships and intimacy, feeling comfortable with your therapist is the most important piece to getting started.

As an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, I value being present in the moment, having self-compassion and acceptance for oneself before working on relationships with others. I practice through a holistic lens and a mindful perspective, teaching clients some of the same techniques that I myself practice regularly to cope with the complex challenges life often brings. In my clinical practice, I hold the belief that my client is the expert of their own life and I am here to help you identify your own personal goals in living a meaningful life that reflects your individual, sexual and relationship values. I provide a nonjudgemental safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in order to gain clarity and let me help you build the skills you need to thrive.

I specialize in sexual health and well being and am passionate about the power of connection between mind, body and spirit. I work with individuals and couples on understanding themselves as sexual beings, whether this relates to their individual journey or within their relationships. My work includes Women’s Sexuality, Men’s Sexuality, Couples and the LGBTQI community. Common issues I work with include:

Performance concerns, painful intercourse, orgasm concerns, erectile dysfunction, loss of interest/libido, premarital counseling, relationship/couples counseling, infidelity, pregnancy, fertility issues, sexual behavior experienced as problematic/compulsive, sexual trauma, body image, sexual identity development, and the interplay of religion/spirituality and sex.

Additionally, I specialize in anxiety, stress management, parent/child issues, LGBTQI issues and PTSD within multicultural communities. Working with youth and their families is a passion of mine. My aim is to empower children, teens and parents to advocate for themselves while supporting their unique journey and offering parenting, communication and self-care skills to promote personal growth and family unity.

In addition to my private practice, I teach the graduate level Advanced Human Sexuality course at the University of San Diego (USD) and am continuing to expand my expertise in sexual health as I currently complete my Ph.D. in Human Sexuality at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and acquire my AASECT Sex Therapist Certification.
