Facts & Fees

How long is each session?

A standard session length is 50-minutes.  Extended sessions for couples work, EMDR and other needs are available depending on the intensity of treatment desired.  For couples and families, I recommend 80-minute extended sessions in order to most effectively address the needs of each participant.

How many sessions do I need?
We decide together. It depends on the intensity of symptoms or issues you are seeking to resolve. I can provide brief, solution-focused treatment to address moderate issues in 6-10 sessions. These sessions are usually focused on skill building and problem solving of present issues. We can also delve into deeper emotional or relational issues that may need longer term therapy to adequately address. We will decide together when you have reached your goals and when it is a good time to end treatment.
How often do we meet?
We decide together. Initially, it is beneficial to meet on a weekly basis in order to facilitate movement toward your goals. As progress is made, biweekly sessions or meeting every 3 weeks may be a better fit for you. If finances are a barrier, we can determine together how often you are able to come in.
What days of the week do you work?
I have office hours on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for both day and evening appointments.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
Finding the right therapist is an important step in reaching your goals. I provide a free 15-minute phone consultation prior to setting up a first visit, so you can ask me questions and hear my feedback in how we may work together to address your needs. If I believe I am not the right therapist for what you are looking for, I will give you referrals to one that may be a better fit. I also understand that sometimes it may take a few sessions to determine if I can meet your needs. I will check in with you periodically to ask what is working or not working in our sessions together in order to tailor each session to best meet your goals. I welcome all feedback!
What is your fee for psychotherapy?

Initial phone consultation: FREE
Individual, Couple or Family Therapy (50 minute sessions): $180
Individual, Couple or Family Therapy (80 minute sessions): $265

Paying out of pocket for therapy rather than using insurance benefits can be advantageous for several reasons:
1. In order to bill insurance, I must give you a mental health diagnosis after the first session. If your symptoms do not fit the severity of a mental health diagnosis, I must give you one anyway. For youth seeking military service in adulthood, this could pose a barrier to enlisting.
2. Insurance determines the length of each session (45-50 minutes) and how many sessions we can meet. Each person is unique and requires a tailored treatment plan and insurance makes that more challenging.
3. Many insurance plans only allow face to face sessions usually one time per week. I often provide teletherapy via the phone or videoconferencing when clients are unable to come into my office for any reason. Stressors or crisis’ do not always happen on a preset time table and having the flexibility to schedule sessions when, how often and from where you want is important.

Do you take insurance?

Out of network provider

If you have a PPO insurance plan, you may receive reimbursement for my services depending on your out-of-network provider benefits. Please note that HMO plans do not qualify for out of network benefits.  Upon payment after each session, I can provide you with a bill which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Because coverage will vary based on your plan, I recommend you call your insurance provider and ask the following questions prior to your first appointment:

• Do I have mental/behavioral health insurance benefits?
• What are my out-of-network provider benefits for mental/behavioral health services?
• What is my deductible and has it been met?
• How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
• What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
• Is approval or pre-authorization required?

What are your cancellation and missed session policies?

Cancellations and missed sessions will be charged at my full rate of $180 per 50-minute session and $260 per 80-minute session if NOT RECEIVED AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you. This is not a fee that is covered by insurance. For those using your insurance, the missed session and late cancellation fee is billed at the rate your insurance reimburses me for my sessions with you. We will discuss this rate at our first session together.

Do you provide therapy online?

Yes. I provide video therapy through an online, secure video conferencing platform in which I can bring my office to you. Video therapy can be beneficial for those who cannot find a therapist in their area with my specialties or for those who prefer to chat with me in the comfort of their home or office.

Online therapy with me is NOT appropriate if you:
• Are not a California resident
• Are suicidal or severely depressed
• Are frequently in a mental health crisis

I also provide individual or small group consultation via phone or video conferencing for people anywhere in the United States and other countries.

How do I make an appointment?
If, after your free 15-minute phone consultation, you decide that I may be a good fit for you, we will set up our first appointment. I will send you an email with a link to my online client portal in which you can access and sign my practice forms and consents electronically prior to our first visit.
What is the secure client portal?
All forms and records are kept online in a secure EHR (Electronic Health Record) system which gives you immediate access to any billing and payments records. For those using their insurance for which I am an in-network provider, I file all insurance claims electronically through this EHR for you. Clients who have insurance in which I am not a provider and wish to use your out-of-network benefits, you can access any claim forms through your client portal for submission yourself for reimbursement
